AN INDEPENDENT WESTERN CAPE. A CAPE OF GOOD HOPE.

Over the past number of weeks, Independence of the Western Cape has become a very regularly discussed topic. It is no longer some crazy notion, secretly mentioned from behind a glass of beer but a very close, achievable reality. Discussions in the media, live stream interviews and public debate has become a very regular occurrence, has moved to the forefront because, it simply can not be ignored any more.

Yet, ever so often, some pseudo-expert, incurable sceptic or delusional politician will argue to the contrary. In most cases, absolutely void of any watertight argument against Independence. Let me remind those of the following few individuals that refused to be weighed down by the negativity of critics and sceptics. Individuals that achieved the seemingly impossible, against “expert” advice, criticism and ridicule, to name but a few.

Sir Edmond Hillary, Orville and Otis Wright, Jacques-Yves Cousteau, Neil Armstrong, Amelia Earhart, Mahatma Ghandi, Winston Churchill, Roald Amundsen, Bartolomeu Dias, Robert Ballard, Lee Kuan Yew, not to mention every single one of the 240+ countries that gained Independence to date, through THE WILL OF THEIR PEOPLE.

When you ascend any podium or platform with nothing but negativity about Independence, with ill-conceived reasons why it will fail, with super-human foresight as to why it will never happen, I consider it a sign of weakness, not wisdom or strength. It reflects your defeat before the game has even started. I instinctively doubt your motives. Please do us all a favour and step aside, we have a new country to build, an Independent Cape of Good Hope. Remember when you watch our Independence celebrations from the tunnel you live in, NOTHING is impossible.

So, what is YOUR reason not to change?
